Update (17/06/11):

A full review of both apps coming soon …

I default to Byword when I type reviews and some such, however I do use Scrivener for structured writing for iMagazinePL. The former is a direct competitor to iA Writer, which is now available for Mac.

Quite frankly, I can’t recommend iA Writer, because you basically get the same functionality for half the price with Byword.

What sort of review is that? And if Byword was $100 and iA Writer $108 would you be just as quick to go for Byword? Maybe the $8 extra is worth paying.

      It’s not. It’s an opinion.

I think the title of this blog is self-explanatory, isn’t it?

iA Writer’s Focus Mode is a very, very neat feature not found in Byword.

Basically, it keeps the active line of text at the center of the screen, so your eyes do not have to move up and down, just left and right.

Seems like a minor feature, but I think it’s great.

No other writing app has this feature, as far as I know.
